1.1 Background of the Study
Films are powerful tools for shaping societal norms and values, including those related to family life. By portraying various family dynamics, roles, and challenges, films can influence viewers’ perceptions and behaviors toward family relationships (Aminu & Hassan, 2023). In Jere North Local Government Area, Borno State, where traditional family values are deeply embedded, films are increasingly consumed for entertainment and educational purposes. This study examines the extent to which films impact family values in the area, exploring their role in reinforcing or challenging existing norms.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Family values, which encompass principles like respect, responsibility, and unity, are crucial for societal stability. However, the increasing influence of modern media, including films, has introduced new perspectives that sometimes conflict with traditional values (Okeke & Bello, 2024). In Jere North, where films are popular among diverse age groups, concerns have emerged about their impact on family values. This study investigates how films shape family values in the community, addressing a gap in localized research on this topic.
